New year, a new story to write
Even though this phrase is a sort of 1st class cliche, I hope it will be right truthful for me. And it already, as my start of the year was nothing like the ones before. Last year I was deep in a retraining program as a part of my way to becoming a software engineer. This year, I was deep down in unfinished work from December, already being a full-time software engineer.
You know that old joke about the readability of code, right?
“When a programmer first creates his code, only he and God know how it works, a few months down the line and only God knows”?
Yeah so…long story short…
The morning of January the 3rd was full of cursing and unbelievable shouts in our office – as I did end before Christmas in the middle of writing new unrefactored code, and Michal and Ivo were in a similar place. The valuable lesson though – I did not realize how strange and unfamiliar your own code can become after just 10 days if it’s the first unrefined, version that was not refactored and cleaned and made more readable.
The rate of WTF/minute was exceptionally high that morning in our office…
Books
I am a bookwork, book enthusiast, total book lover. I used to read a lot. Last year I didn’t have that much time, but I decided I want to read some nice fantasy or sci-fi during the Christmas holiday. I had to extend my leisure/reading time to the first week of the new year, as I wanted to finish the series I was reading.
As I said I love SciFi and fantasy as a leisure reading, and last year I discovered litRPG, a subgenre of the said.
What is litRPG?
LitRPG, short for literary role-playing game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of computer RPGs with science-fiction and fantasy novels.

I managed to read the whole ‘New Era Online’ series by Shemer Kuznitz – HERE on Goodreads. I love it and I think it is one of the best litRPGs I have read so far. So I highly recommend it.
Plans
I have a few plans for 2022, that I don’t want to uncover yet. But I decided to start with those weekly notes – I plan to note things and ideas every day and then synthesize them into an article by the end of the week.
It should be a good way of building the habit of writing every day. Sometimes it will be short like today, sometimes it will be much longer.
Also, I have still a few articles in my backlog, two of those in the nearly publish-ready state – so stay tuned.
